Matthew Wood - March 2014 speaker (Note new venue)

Matthew Wood , the former Yorkshire opener, will be the guest of East Riding Cricket Society on Wednesday 12  March .  Huddersfield-born Matthew first achieved prominence with England Under-19s, touring Zimbabwe in 1995-6 when he opened the batting with a certain Andrew Flintoff. Matthew made his  Yorkshire debut in 1997 and starred in the club's 2001 Championship-winning team, making four centuries during that memorable season, including a first-innings 124 against Glamorgan at Scarborough in the match which secured the trophy. Matthew followed this up with a winning 2002 C&G Final appearance (pictured above) and two Academy tours of Australia – alongside past and present Test men Flintoff, Andrew Strauss, Graham Swann, Ian Bell, Steve Harmison, Rob Key and Monty Panesar – while 1,400 runs and five centuries in a superb 2003 brought him the much-coveted title of Yorkshire's Player of the Year. Jason Gillespie

Jason Gillespie ,Yorkshire CCC's 1st Team Coach and Australian Test great, and Dave Callaghan , the voice of YCCC on BBC radio, will be presenting their Dizzy 'n' Dave roadshow at East Riding Cricket Society on Wednesday 26 February 2014 , 7.30pm for 7.45pm. Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath formed Australia's most statistically successful new ball pairing, and Jason is now one of the world's most highly regarded coaches, much talked about in recent days as a possible successor to Andy Flower. Stephen Mann

Stephen Mann , Chairman of the Yorkshire CCC Members' Committee , will be speaking at East Riding Cricket Society on Wednesday 8 January 2014 . Stephen was born, raised and educated in the West Riding. He watched his first county cricket at Bradford Park Avenue in the early 60's and made his first visit to Headingley with a school party for the 1962 Test against Pakistan, watching Trueman and Statham - and 2012 speaker Micky Stewart - take on the likes of Mushtaq and Hanif Mohammed. His playing days were spent in the Heavy Woollen leagues and in village cricket during a spell living in Scotland. Stephen joined the YCCC Members' Committee in 2005 and became Chairman that same year at only his second meeting. John Sadler

Ex Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire middle-order batsman John Sadler will be speaking at East Riding Cricket Society on Wednesday 11 December 2013 . Dewsbury-born John played alongside current Ashes stars James Anderson, Matt Prior, Ian Bell, Monty Panesar and Chris Tremlett at England Under-19 level, as well as Tim Bresnan, Andrew Gale and Michael Lumb with Yorkshire Seconds. He twice won the Twenty/20 trophy with Leicestershire in 2004 and 2006 and now captains Hoylandswaine in the Drakes Huddersfield Premier League. John is also a qualified ECB Level 3 coach, currently studying for his Level 4 and running his own business John Sadler Cricket , based at Ossett CC. M.J.K. Smith

Ex England and Warwickshire captain M.J.K. Smith will be our speaker on Wednesday 13 November. Captain of England in half of his fifty tests, including successive tours of India, South Africa and Australia in the mid-60s, Mike was later an England tour manager and international match referee. He is also England's last d ouble international, playing one match at fly half for England RU against Wales in 1956. His eagerly anticipated biography M.J.K. Smith: No Ordinary Man by Douglas Miller was released earlier this year. 'Mike is speaking all over the country this autumn and we're thrilled we can bring him to Hull,' said chairman Michael Hardwick. 'We're looking forward to a cracking evening.' Gillespie and MJK star in 2013/14 programme

Aussie Test bowler and current Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie is just one of the star names lined up for the East Riding Cricket Society this winter. Alongside Gillespie will be England captain MJK Smith , Yorkshire opener Matthew Wood , YCCC Members' Committee chair, Stephen Mann and award-winning journalist Graham Hardcastle - cricket correspondent of the Telegraph and Argus and York Evening Press - who opens the batting on Wednesday 9 October. Congratulations to ERCUSA

Umpires Mullaney, Smith, Foster & Coward The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II was not the only event of note in 1953. Congratulations also go to the East Riding Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association which is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee this year with a number of events throughout the summer. Today sees the opening of an exhibition on the history of the association at Hull History Centre, with cartoons, poetry, biographies, photographs and a range of cricketing artefacts on display. The exhibition is on until 29 July and the treasurer of ERCUSA, Michael Free, has produced an illustrated book to accompany it. With a foreword by Dickie Bird, it expands on the written material on display and gives an interesting insight into some of the characters who have umpired local cricket! Next Sunday 14 July sees a charity cricket match at Hull CC's Chanterlands Avenue ground, when an Umpires XI will take on an Invitation XI made up of cricketers from the local leagues. A raff...
